Hi Rogie ... I'll have to go check out your blog!
I've been experimenting with various styles and forms as you will see if you follow the link to my Poetry Park & Play folder! :)
Be Blessed,
Debbie
I think my answer to this question would be that I write as freely as I desire. At times I use constant rhymes, a melodious pattern, other times it's short, no rhymes, no pattern. In my opinion, poetry is an art just like painting or sculpting is an art; there's no limit, no style, no laws: your fantasy is what matters, your hands is what delivers it.
Usually what inspires me to write is direct life experiences and emotions, at times, when something really sad or bad has happend, when I feel depressed and broken, I usually let the anger and sadness out using pen and paper. As simple as that, a battle with words, but really to me it's all therapy, and my readers love it. Many have told me that they find themselves in my poetry, as I personally think, is because everything I write about is so down to Earth, simple to read and about personal life experiences.
So depending on what I write about, the emotions I'm feeling at that moment, what I have just gone through, forms the poem. I don't really think about that this poem got to rhyme when I start writing it, it all just floats out directly from my mind to the paper. Sometimes I even get surprised reading the poem afterwards and I think "did I write that, wow". Basically it's all emotions and ink. But I love it, freestyle is really my sort of writing I guess.
Reema!
I love the poems you've shared here thus far and must agree the emotion and feeling are 'out there' and very easy to relate to! Beautiful insight into your style and 'why'....do KEEP ON WRITING & ENJOY THE PROCESS!!!
Blessings,Debbie
Thank you Debra. I also got to say that these writing networks on ning has inspired me further as people start to comment and I actually get to know that they like or dislike with my writing, so yepp that's a good thing, really helpful.
Rogie, I couldn't have said it better, you just made my day ;) And sure, you're welcome to use my photos, just tell me when there's anything in particular that you need.
Hm...traditional or freestyle? Actually, I do love the challenge of different styles--haikus (both traditional and "modern"), tankas, and whatever else. A lot of what I write is very freeform though. You can't even count on me to have the same number of lines in the stanzas!
One thing I never, never do is rhyme. An English teacher once said that rhyming patters should feel good in our ears. I went back to her recently and asked if she still said that in class--she did! I asked if anyone had ever complained about rhymes. No...so I talked about how rhyme schemes actually hurt my ears. I don't like them, and will often "tune out" things that have too many rhymes.
Does that make me weird? (See, I know I'm weird, but is that what makes me weird??)
